Pfaffenheim, Alsace, France
Domaine Pinot Noir from vines on both the Steinert (limestone) and Sandstein (sandstone) terroirs but which sit outside of the vineyard boundaries. Average age of the vines is 45 years-old. Jean-François’ Pinot sees between 4-5 weeks of maceration before aging in foudres for an additional 9-10 months. Candied red fruits, currents and a touch of smoky florals. Ginglinger Pinot always presents as fruit driven but once you dive in you get a sense of its serious mineral texture and grip. Bright and broad acidity, with plenty of tannin across the palate. Minerality is shining with a tangy persistence, finishing with the telltale smokiness we often see from J-F’s Pinot Noir.
